We are always looking for the secret to getting added length off the tee. Well, there is really no secret. It comes down to good fundamentals. If you have those, you can be the longest driver in your foursome.

Hitting a driver off the tee is very different than hitting an iron off the turf. That is why the distance you have been looking for has always escaped you. In hitting the ball, you have been applying hitting “off the turf” fundamentals to your the tee shot.

To change this, get into a different frame of mind when hitting off a tee. The ball is sitting one to three inches up in the air. Go up and get it!

You achieve this by positioning the ball off your front heel. Your front shoulder be slightly higher than your back shoulder. Your head should be behind the ball at impact. And most of your weight should be behind the ball, pushing through at impact.

By concentrating on being behind the ball, the club head will start to travel on the upward half of the arc about six to 12 inches behind the ball. This will create a sweeping arc and the club will pick the ball off the tee and project it high and long down the fairway. If done correctly, you will just tick the tee and it will lean forward. YOU SHOULDN’T BREAK TEES. If you are, come see me. I’ll get you hitting it long in no time.
