After 19 years as senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Hollister, Pastor Larry Ball will be stepping down.
Ball will be replaced by David Cannon, who was voted in recently by the church.
Ball, whose last day is Sunday, will be heading to Arizona to become the Associate Director of International Baptist Missions, where he will be aiding missionaries and promoting missions.
“Our great burden is to be a help and be a blessing to churches throughout the United States,” Ball said. “Our desire is to lay the burden of missions upon the hearts of God’s people by challenging them to lift up their eyes and look upon the fields that are white unto harvest.”
Cannon, 50, his wife, Stephanie, and daughter, Allison, are scheduled to move to Hollister in August. He will become the 11th pastor in the 56-year history of the church.
Most recently Cannon was the associate pastor at Grace Church of Mentor in Ohio.
Cannon received a bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in South Carolina in 1981, where he graduated cum laude. He received his master’s from Bob Jones in 1996 and is currently finishing up his doctorate degree, also from Bob Jones. Cannon, who was saved when he was a teenager, taught in several Christian schools in the eight years following graduation.
“It was through this experience that God created a hunger in my heart to teach his word,” Cannon said.
His life verse is Ezekiel 22:30.
“The desire ‘to stand in the gap’ – the empty space that has gone lacking – has become a powerful motivation for us as we serve him,” Cannon said.
