Dear Editor,
Evolution is no more than science fiction. Yet, Mauricio A. Hernandez (Sept. 22) tells us, “Intelligent Design is an intellectually bankrupt proposition,” but in his diatribe reveals his very own mathematical bankruptcy. In the permutation-of-four example given by Mr. Lindstrom, Hernandez states that if A and B cannot occur together, “only 8 different arrangements are possible (ACED, ACDB, ADCB, DACE, ECAD, BCDA, BDCA, DECA).
A simple combination rule excludes 2/3 of the possibilities!” He conveniently overlooked the combinations ADEC, BDAC, CADE, and CEDA, revealing both his inept counting skill and his pro-evolution argument to be “meaningless.” And contrary to Hernandez’s remark, those who insist that the hoax (evolution) is fact (as opposed to theory, or better yet, an enticing story much like Stargate) do indeed imply “that the sequence of components somehow arranged itself into a complete structure by chance.”
Think about it: If there is no design, then it all happened by chance, and Mr. Lindstrom effectively demonstrated that that is essentially impossible. And it is Hernandez, not Mr. Lindstrom, who “hopes we stop thinking about these questions.”
