Barbara J. (“Bobbie”) Miller was 91 years old when she passed away on June 15, 2015, surrounded by family at her home on the Miller Ranch.
Born in San Francisco, to George and Aileen Moore, she was raised on their apricot orchard in Hollister.
After graduating from local schools, Bobbie attended San Jose State College before she married Martin Miller in 1943. Six months later while attending Bennett Junior College in New York, Bobbie was widowed when Lt. Miller, a fighter pilot, was shot down and killed over Holland. Mrs. Miller returned to California to live and work in San Francisco.
Bobbie was vacationing at the Miller Ranch at the invitation of Mrs. Miller, Sr. when WWII ended. While she was there, Martin’s twin brother, John R. Miller, returned home after serving his tour of duty as a B-17 pilot in Europe. John and Bobbie were married in February 1946.
The Millers resided on the family cattle ranch where they raised their four children.
In addition to working as Office Manager at Almaden Paicines Winery, Bobbie was a 4-H leader, a member of the San Benito County Board of Education, the Children’s Home Society, San Benito County Cattlewomen’s Association, Farm Bureau, and she was a long-time Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary volunteer. Bobbie was always busy with her beloved garden, but she was best known for her homemaking skills, wonderful family dinners, prize-winning baked goods, yummy Christmas candy, and love of her family and friends.
Her husband of 67 years, John R. Miller and her grandson, John Kline precede Bobbie in death.
She is survived by her four children, Marti (John) Hubbell, Martin (Barbara A.) Miller, Linda (Dave) Kline, and Sue (Bruce) Kimball, along with 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Wes Miller; two nephews and a niece.
