GILROY – Josh Marozick accounted for all four runs, including the game winner, as the Anchorpoint Christian baseball team picked up an important Coastal Division victory over Trinity, 4-3, in extra innings Tuesday in Gilroy.
With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Marozick manufactured the winning tally with hustle; walking, stealing second, advancing to third on a ground out, then scoring the deciding run on a passed ball.
“He was able to keep his head in the game and have a big day,” Warriors manager Ken Bradley said.
Marozick plated Josh Ignagni and Kenneth Urbanski in the bottom of the first inning, pounding a line drive to right field for a triple. The senior scored one batter later on a passed ball as the Warriors jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Jacob Brendle went 3.1 without yielding a hit but ran into some trouble in the fifth inning as Trinity narrowed the deficit to 3-2.
Trinity tied things in the sixth at 3-all, where the score stood until the ninth.
Urbanski earned the win in relief, thwarting a Trinity threat in the top of the ninth, stranding runners on second and third.
The Warriors are now 1-2 in the Coastal Division of the Mission Trail Athletic League.
The two teams meet again on Friday at Monterey Peninsula College.
