GILROY – Following a gritty battle between the lines Friday afternoon with San Benito resulting in a 9-5 loss, the Gilroy High baseball team took another hit to its record with a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Salinas Cowboys on Saturday in Gilroy.
The setback pushes the Mustangs (12-8-1, 8-4 TCAL) into third place in the Tri-County Athletic League, one game behind Palma (13-6, 8-3 TCAL) in the loss column and four games back of the first-place Balers (15-4, 11-0 TCAL), who smacked around North Salinas, 12-2, on Saturday.
Eric Vegas picked up a pair of hits for the Mustangs, Taylor Chris drove in a run and Jordan Holler scored twice.
The Mustangs must now regroup for a matchup with Alisal on Tuesday in Salinas, before hosting a crucial contest with the Chieftains – a game that was originally scheduled for Friday – on Thursday in Gilroy.
