If you play this game long enough you are going to get caught in some bad weather once in a while. It’s been my experience that the players who score best in bad weather are those that are most prepared. Take it from the players who participated in last weeks Jeff Garcia golf tournament, weather can change in a moment.

Your bag should always have a jacket, towel and extra gloves as standard inventory. Your trunk should have that umbrella so if it looks like it could threaten during the day you can take the umbrella along.

Dress in layers. You can always peel off if it gets warm. You don’t want to get caught in a rain storm only to realize that your $400 goretex rain suit is back home in your closet keeping the hanger nice and dry while you are dripping wet.

If it’s raining, keep the things you want dry such as your towel and glove under the umbrella. Hang them from the umbrella supports and they will always be dry when you need them.

Keep a rain cover over your bag to keep the rain out. Water will hit the tops of your irons then drip down to the grips and wet grips are the worst to have during a round of golf. Check into to wet weather gloves. They actually grip better when they are wet than dry.

Last but not least for those players who play purely for the social aspect it never hurts to have a little “antifreeze” in you bag. Those cold and wet rounds are much more enjoyable when you can stay loose and not tighten up because of the cold temperature.

Remember, when all else fails take a lesson, you’ll be surprised how much we can help.
