Gilroy – An All-Gilroy matchup at the Majors District 39 All-Star Tournament kicks off an Independence Day weekend chock full with Little League action.

Tonight at 5:30pm, the Gilroy American and National league squads will face each other in Scotts Valley in losing bracket play.

Both teams enter the game with one loss apiece, which means one All-Star run will be over when all is said and done.

The American team lost 3-2 to Scotts Valley on Tuesday, while the National team also lost a 1-0 squeaker to Salsipuedes the same day. In that game, Salsipuedes scored on a passed ball in the first inning and never looked back. Despite Michael Hartman’s five innings of solid pitching and Matt Jackson’s 2-for-3 effort at the plate, the Nationals couldn’t score.

Playing its first All-Star game of the season is the 11-year-old National team, which takes on Scotts Valley today at 5pm at Santa Cruz. The minors American team played its first game in Pool B of that tournament at Watsonville yesterday against Salsipuedes.

Playing at 5:30pm today are the minors National team, which plays the loser of San Juan Aromas and Watsonville American at Watsonville, and the 11-year-old American team, which plays Salsipuedes at Santa Cruz.

At the 9-year-old tournament in San Juan Bautista, both Gilroy teams have games in the losers’ bracket Saturday.
