Alejo’s immigrant license bill gains broad support

The California Legislature on Thursday passed a bill by Assemblyman Luis Alejo, D-Salinas, which would allow any undocumented immigrant to apply for a driver’s license. AB 60 passed out of the State Senate with a vote of 28-8 and was approved by the State Assembly with a vote of 55-19.

Alejo targets risky school bonds with new bill

Assembly Bill 182, authored by Assemblymember Joan Buchanan (D-Alamo) with Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) as a principle co-author, passed the Assembly Floor today with a vote of 75-0. This bill establishes strict parameters for school districts and community college districts when issuing capital appreciation bonds, or CABs.

Legislation introduced capping severance pay for superintendents

Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas) today introduced Assembly Bill 280, which places a three-month cap on the severance pay of a school district superintendent. Currently, when a superintendent’s contract of employment is terminated, he or she is eligible for a severance pay of up to 18 times their monthly salary, which can potentially be very costly.
