GILROY—A public employee union in Gilroy and city officials have reached a tentative agreement to avert a two-day strike the labor group planned for later this month, city officials announced Tuesday.

GILROY—The parents of a 15-year-old girl killed in a car accident on Miller Avenue are planning to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. The family believes that another fatal wreck in the same location three months prior should have moved the city to make safety improvements.

When Gilroy residents Harry and Laurie Sontag made the decision to replace two-thirds of their lawn with pavers last spring, they were not aware of the lawn-replacement rebate offered by the Santa Clara Valley Water District. They just hoped to conserve water and create a larger space for hosting outdoor parties and watching movies on an outdoor screen.The project updated approximately 400 square feet of lawn and was completed in two weeks.

Gilroy party-goers rang in the early evening Friday, July 11 at San Ysidro Park to the sound of deejay music, undulating zumba dancers and a cacophony of police sirens.
