GILROY—Dozens of workers at Saint Louise Regional Hospital, from its chief of staff to its nurses, along with citizens and elected officials spoke of the need to keep the Gilroy hospital open at a hearing hosted by the California Attorney General’s Office. The Oct. 16 session at Gilroy City Hall was one of a handful held in California as Attorney General Kamala Harris reviews the proposed sale of Saint Louise and five other hospitals to New York-based private equity firm BlueMountain.
GILROY—After walking away from the purchase of six Daughters of Charity hospitals in March due to “onerous and unprecedented conditions” placed on the transaction by California Attorney General Kamala Harris, Prime Healthcare has filed a lawsuit alleging she abused her constitutional authority.
In the best case scenario Saint Louise Regional Hospital, which is on the market along with the entire group of hospitals owned and operated by the Catholic Daughters of Charity, will be sold to a compassionate organization intent on providing quality health care to South County residents. In the worst case, scenario, there would be no takers and Saint Louise would be shuttered.
