A Hollister man was arrested in Gilroy on Oct. 17 for attempted murder, two counts of attempted carjacking, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and terrorist threats.

To squelch youth crime in Gilroy, community leaders are seeking input from residents about the types of crime juveniles are getting into in their neighborhoods, and what can be done about the problem.  

A few thousand Morgan Hill residents and visitors gathered downtown this afternoon to shop, browse, eat and dance at the 23rd annual Taste of Morgan Hill festival.

In order to meet certain state requirements of low-income housing, the City Council will discuss at their regular meeting Monday adapting the housing section of the general plan by rezoning 26 acres within the city to “high density residential” raising the minimum unit per acre from 16 to 20 in these areas.

It’s been an interesting week for Gilroy crime. Besides the usual business of robberies, burglaries and assaults, police responded to a handful of incidents including a man roaming around Gilroy exposing himself to women, and reports of the levee on Lewis Street being set on fire. A 28-year-old Gilroy woman was killed early Saturday morning in a solo crash on Highway 101 north of Sixth Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
