GILROY – The Santa Clara County coroner’s officer confirmed Monday morning that the man a kayaker found dead in Anderson Reservoir Jan. 10 is Jose Luis Rojas Campusano, of Gilroy.
Medical examiners confirmed 41-year-old Campusano’s identity using dental records. They have still not determined what caused his death. As they wait on the results of additional testing, Campusano’s death certificate lists his cause of death as “pending.”
“Everything’s pointing to suicide at this point, but until (sheriff’s deputies) get the report back from the coroner, they can’t close the case out,” Deputy Terrance Helm said Monday morning.
Helm previously said deputies were “99 percent sure” the body was Campusano’s. They had searched for him at Anderson Lake County Park after finding his gray Cadillac there the day after his disappearance. They combed the woods with dogs and probed the depths of the reservoir with a dive team. But he was missing until nearly four weeks later, when his body was found on the far side of the reservoir.
Campusano disappeared Dec. 13. At about 12:30 p.m. the day after Campusano went missing, sheriff’s deputies found his car in a parking lot at the park.
