A sound like a gunshot echoed through Forest Park Inn Thursday morning, alarming guests, who were evacuated. But the hotel wasn’t cleared for a gunshot: a pair of common two-liter bottles, rigged as explosives, were found outside the property. One detonated Thursday morning; a second was shot and disabled by the county bomb squad about 10:30am. Gilroy police collected evidence from the scene after the second explosive was spent. The chemical explosives were stuck into a hedge outside the complex’s north end, where the first detonated. Made of simple ingredients, bottled to make an uncontrolled explosion, the explosives “could really hurt you, if you were standing there,” but were unlikely to cause structural damage to the building, said Gilroy Fire Department Engineer Andy Holiday.
