Gilroy – In perhaps the best game played in the Gilroy Little League Girls Minors division this year, the Brakettes pulled out an extra-inning 8-7 victory over the Heat to take the championship.
It started out as a pitching duel between the Brakettes’ Anna Gamboa and the Heat’s Laruen Castro. Gamboa had nine strikeouts in four innings and Castro had six strikeouts in three.
“Both Castro and Gamboa have pitched their hearts out all season,” Brakettes coach George Sandoval said.
Karli Martinez came on in relief once Gamboa had reached her pitch limit for the week, and was more than solid, recording three strikeouts.
Top hitters for the Brakettes included: Madie Cox, who was 3-for-3 and scored twice, Amber Herrera, who batted 3-for-3, Martinez, who went 2-for-2, Anjelica Reyes, who was 3-for-3, and Maria Sandoval, who finished 2-for-3 and scored once.
The Heat’s top batters were: Kealey Eddy, who was 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs, and Castro, who also went 3-for-3 and scored once.
Sandoval Painting Brakettes finished their season 13-2, while Tommy Tong Orthodontics Heat finished the schedule 11-4-1.
