That’s MY can
”
My problem is I don’t always use my whole garbage can and
somebody is coming along and putting their garbage in my container.
I know there’s been problems with people taking recycling and stuff
and I have that problem also. But what is the ruling on somebody
putting garbage in somebody else’s garbage can? I’d appreciate an
answer and I’ll watch for it in the paper. Thank you.

Red Phone:
Here’s your answer.
“Technically, by law, it’s against the law,” said Assistant Police Chief Lanny Brown. “It’s considered theft of services without their permission.”
He recommends individuals be observant and ask their neighbors to do so also.
“If you see someone doing it, call us,” he said.
However, note that if you witness this and do call the police, they cannot make an arrest or citation for a misdemeanor not committed in their presence, unless the witness agrees to make a citizen’s arrest. Call the police department at 846-0350.
Reward was rigged
“OK, Red Phone. I just read the article in Tuesday’s paper about the guy, Cesar Montoya, who used his mugshot from the Dispatch (Gilroy’s Most Wanted) to identify himself to police and I just gotta ask, does he get the reward for doing this? See ya!”
Red Phone:
Caller, you gave several members of the newsroom a good belly laugh with your quirky comment – Red Phone included. Your call is why Red Phone loves being Red Phone and hearing comments from local residents. Thanks for the laughs.
However, it must point out that Montoya had already been captured and released on bail when he presented the ‘old’ Most Wanted to police as identification.
A big thanks
I just wanted to call and thank you for getting the light system at Farrell and Monterey, the timer on that, fixed. That was very quick and I appreciate you diligence and it’s very much appreciated. I’m the resident who lives in the area who called about that. Just wanted to say thank you very much.”
Red Phone:
Thanks for taking the time to let it know. Red Phone always appreciates hearing when it comes through for its callers.
Grape season?
“I read the story on the Solis Winery. Your picture on A6 says she’s picking grapes Monday morning. I don’t think there’s any grapes to be picked this time of year and the leaves are nice and green, and I don’t think there are leaves on the vines anymore. I don’t believe they crush grapes this time of year in the Gilroy area. Thank you and good-bye.”
Red Phone:
You’re exactly right, caller. Those photographs were file photos taken on a Monday morning during the grape-picking season. Red Phone apologizes for any seasonal confusion.
