Gilroy – Authorities are still sorting out who should face charges after a lovers’ quarrel turned ugly in a Lilly Avenue apartment.

A man and his girlfriend were visiting a friend, Shatoya Johnson, at her Lilly Avenue apartment Wednesday when they began fighting, Gilroy police reported. Johnson was using a kitchen knife to prepare a meal when she saw the two grappling, and tried to separate them. During the struggle, Johnson stabbed the unidentified man three times, once in the chest, once in the side, and once in the bicep, police said. He was flown to an area trauma center.

Johnson, 24, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and released. Police are considering domestic violence charges against the man who was stabbed, said Sgt. Jim Gillio. Detectives expect to complete their investigation Friday.
