Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Morgan Hill resident, Charlene Greene Taylor, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 20, 2011. She was 87 years old.
She leaves behind her husband, Robert H. Taylor, and her seven children: Bob Taylor of Morgan Hill, CA, Bill Taylor of Sutter Creek, CA, Barbara Goodenough of Milton-Freewater, OR, Betty Dunworth of Santa Cruz, CA, Bonnie Barker of Morgan Hill, CA, Brad Taylor of Morgan Hill, CA, and Bruce Taylor of Morgan Hill, CA. In addition, Mrs. Taylor leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Mrs. Taylor was the cherished daughter of the late Charles C. Greene and the late Sarah I. Greene.
Born in Idabel, OK on September 18, 1924, Mrs. Taylor moved to California at the age of 15. Mrs. Taylor’s father was in the Army Air Corps and was transferred from Louisiana to Mt. View where he was stationed at Moffett Field Air Base. Mrs. Taylor attended Mountain View High School. There is where she met her husband of almost 70 years.
On the first day of school, the beautiful Charlene’s desk assignment just happened to be next to Bob Taylor. He asked her out that very first day, but she turned him down flat because she thought he was “FRESH.” He continued the pursuit and six months later they had their first date. After dating for two years, and after receiving special permission from both sets of their parents to marry, the wedding ceremony was held in the back yard of her parent’s home at Hamilton Air Force base on May 10, 1942.
In the years that ensued until 1982, Mrs. Taylor lived with her husband and family in Los Altos, CA. There she became well known for her beautiful home and gracious hospitality. Her home was the focal point for family holidays. It was also the perfect location for neighborhood 4th of July parties and many weddings and receptions.
Many summers found neighborhood children attending her summer Bible classes. It was also in the 1980’s that Mrs. Taylor transformed her second home in Genoa, NV into the Taylor House Bed & Breakfast. There she welcomed guests from all over the world to her stunning Tudor-style home located in Carson Valley.
After moving to Morgan Hill in 1982, Mrs. Taylor was instrumental in helping her husband develop the Uvas Pines RV Park which Mr. Taylor still owns.
A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Taylor’s love for her family was matched only by her love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A faithful Christian, Mrs. Taylor was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Los Altos. After moving to Morgan Hill, Mrs. Taylor attended Shadow Mountain Baptist Church in Morgan Hill.
Services were held Wednesday, November 23, 2011, followed by interment at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto, CA.
