BookSmart of Morgan Hill

Two children’s book authors, Anne Ylvisaker of “Button Down” and Bill Baynes of “Bunt! He’s no homerun hero…,” will make separate visits in May to BookSmart, the local downtown bookstore at 80 E. Second Street in Morgan Hill.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the event. The authors will be selling and signing their newest children’s books.

Ylvisaker’s original novel, geared towards children ages 8 to 12, is titled “The Luck of the Buttons” and follows the life of “a sometimes hapless, always winning family that scores big points for humor and heart.”

Ylvsaker will be detailing her second edition of the new series, “Button Down,” at 3:30 p.m. May 9.

Ylvisaker, who has a master’s degree in education, was awarded the 2005 McKnight Artist Fellowship/Loft Award in Children’s Literature.

Baynes’ latest youth sports novel is centered around “a sharp-eyed kid” who “develops such a precise bat control that he can bunt a baseball just about anywhere he wants it.”

Baynes will visit BookSmart from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11. She is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and former newspaper reporter with the Miami Herald and the Associated Press.
