Online versions of more than 100 current, popular magazines published in China, in the Chinese language, are now available to Gilroy Library users. The magazines include arts, education, technology, health, literature, economy and finance and other contemporary periodicals and can be browsed, or searched with the full-text database provided by Dragonsource Qikan, the world’s only Chinese electronic magazine database.

The magazines can be accessed from computers in the library or from library patrons’ own computers at home or at work if they have a library card and PIN, through the Santa Clara County Library Web site.

In addition to the new Chinese electronic magazine database, Gilroy Library patrons have access to books, videos and other materials in more than 20 languages.

Funding for the new service came from a contribution by the Cupertino Library Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization that has raised $2.7 million to benefit the library.

“The Cupertino Library Foundation’s generous support provided the seed money for us to purchase and offer this database,” said Nancy Howe, adult services manager, Santa Clara County Library.
