The Christopher High boys junior varsity basketball team pulled out a tight 36-33 victory over Crystal Springs Uplands during Day 2 of the San Lorenzo Valley Tournament on Friday, getting win No. 1 out of the way in just their second official game.
“We played great defense and pressured the ball the entire game,” said head coach Kaden Bahner. “I am extremely happy for these kids.”
Sophomore Marcus Harrell posted a team-high 10 points, and for the second straight game Peter Hilkene finished among the leading scorers, contributing eight points.
The Cougars will play in the fifth-place game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Girls Basketball
Playing in its first tournament as a program, the Christopher High girls junior varsity team nearly upset host school Leland on Thursday night.
Tied going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars were unable to fend off a late Chargers push in a 43-37 loss.
CHS faced another tough opponent Friday in Notre Dame-San Jose, keeping it close at the half before the Regents poured it on in the second half of play for a 52-29 win.
The Cougars have one more game scheduled at the Leland tournament before jumping right into action in a busy week on the floor starting Monday against North Salinas.
