Dear Editor,

The Feb. 9 article about the city seizing private land was absolutely sickening. Forcing people to sell against their will is theft – theft with payment, but still theft.

The median Gilroy home now sells for $590,000. We all know where the value is; it’s not in the home, but in the land on which it sits. According to the article, the city offered the Oyao family $310,000 for two homes. Mr. Loi Dong was offered $97,000 for his land and building. And what does Councilman Bob Dillon, the biggest hypocrite Gilroy ever elected, have to say? “I don’t think they’ve been very reasonable about the prices!”

Guess what, Bob: The city wasn’t reasonable when deciding on the site. Guess what else: The city’s offers to the Oyao’s and to Mr. Dong weren’t reasonable, especially to build a frill (as opposed to a necessity)!

Has anyone at the city considered purchasing equivalently-sized land for Messrs, Dong Oyao and Gera? The city owns various lots that could perhaps be exchanged.

Or better yet, since Bob Dillon and Parks Fief Bill Headley seem to be so much in favor of this theft, the city can pay them some chump change for their houses ($97,000 for Dillon’s and $155,000 for Headley’s based on the insult that the city offered Dong and Oyao) and give them to Messrs, Dong and Oyao in exchange.
