Walnut Creek – Sonoma State outfielder B.J. Collom was named the Wilson California Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Player of the Week for April 17-22. Collom batted .588 over the week to lead the Seawolves to a 3-1 series win at Cal Poly Pomona.
Collom, a senior who attended Gilroy High and Gavilan College, drove in 11 runs, scored seven, had a pair of home runs and lifted his batting average to .415 for the year, the second best mark in school history.
In Friday’s doubleheader, Collom went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and scored three times in SSU’s 10-1 win. He then went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the third inning to help the Seawolves to an 11-0 win, capping a 6-for-8, six-RBI day for Collom.
In Sonom State’s come-from-behind win on Saturday, Collom went 3-for-5 with a pair of singles, scored twice and drove in a run in SSU’s 15-run rally over the span of two innings. He capped off the weekend with a two-run homer in the nightcap, an 8-6 loss.
Collom is the second Seawolf to win the award this season. Eli Rimes was named Wilson CCAA Baseball Player of the Week for March 5-11.
