The Gavilan College football program hosted a skills camp for high school athletes July 11 at the school. Players from Christopher, Sobrato, Monte Vista Christian, Santa Teresa and Salinas high schools all took part in the camp, which Rams head coach Mike Dovenberg called a huge success.
Suit against councilman alleges unpaid overtime
GILROY—Two former employees of a towing company owned and operated by Gilroy Councilman Dion Bracco have lawyered up and are suing him for nearly $700,000 in overtime they allege they were never paid. Rafael Torres and Angel Fletes, who worked for Bracco’s Towing and Transport for six and seven years, respectively, as tow truck drivers, also allege other labor law violations in the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
Clay Shooting: Weberg aiming for U.S. National Team
As Ryan Weberg stares down the barrel of his over-under double-barrel shotgun, his mind is blank. He’s honed in on a familiar sound, the “click” of clay targets being released. Weberg lines up his shot in anticipation, waits for the sound and fires. The orange targets, which were flying through the air just milliseconds before, shatter and fall to the ground like neon snowflakes. And a satisfied smile stretches across his face.

GILROY—On Sunday, the Gilroy Junior Softball All Stars proved they are the best in North California.
Prep Baseball: DUB Foundation awards scholarship to Christopher High grad
Christopher High School 2015 graduate Makaio Duyao was one of four local baseball players who received the $250 Next Level Scholarship from The DUB Foundation. The Next Level Scholarship is awarded to South Valley baseball players who will be continuing their playing careers in college and are athletes who The DUB Foundation feel are “a great representation of baseball in our area.” Duyao will continue playing baseball as a member of the Gavilan College Rams next season.
Softball: Spirit wins final tourney
The Spirit of Morgan Hill 10U B softball team, comprised of players from around South County, capped off a six-game winning streak by winning its final tournament of the season July 3-5 in Carmel.

GILROY—Danger pulled off four consecutive wins to capture the champ-ionship of the 43rd Co-Rec Fourth of July Softball Tournament on July 4 at Christmas Hill Park.
