It’s a scorcher!
While Morgan Hill touched a high of 98 degrees today, neighbors to the south in Gilroy endured a new record high of 101 degrees, according to National Weather Service Forecaster Steve Anderson.“Mother nature’s air conditioner has been turned off and things start heating up at that point,” said Anderson, forecasting a high of 98 for Friday, 94 on Saturday and low 90s on Sunday. “It won’t really be until Tuesday (Sept. 16) that people really start to feel it cooling down.”Anderson explained that a high pressure system across the entire West Coast has brought warm air from the inland valleys and turned off the sea breeze, which would otherwise help cool temperatures in the afternoon. The NWS does not keep record temperatures for Morgan Hill.As a result of the high temperatures, the City of Morgan Hill has opened cooling centers at the Centennial Recreation Center, the Senior Center and the Community and Cultural Center. The lobby areas are open for the public to use as a place to find relief from the heat.
