Health Department warns of spike in whooping cough cases
The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department is advising that cases of pertussis, also known as “whooping cough,” are increasing in the Bay Area and that people should be aware of the symptoms.
Investigation: CHS cafeteria manager sexually harassed female employees
A Gilroy Unified School District investigation that began in early April revealed the male cafeteria manager at Christopher High School is guilty of sexually harassing his female employees, according to an official report released by GUSD to the Dispatch.
Haute history: 13 buildings receive architectural awards
The Gilroy Historical Society honored 13 buildings during its annual Architectural Awards ceremony held recently at Kirigin Cellars on Watsonville Road. These edifices exemplify Gilroy’s best in categories spanning interior restoration and preservation, landscaping, facade improvements and ongoing maintenance to the exterior of a building. Gilroy’s Italian Renaissance-style train station was one of the winners and the City will receive its award at the start of Monday night’s regular Council meeting.

3.9 magnitude earthquake felt in Gilroy
Residents of Gilroy were stirred, but not necessarily shaken by a 3.9. magnitude earthquake at 8:52 p.m. Thursday that caused a moderate rolling movement. The temblor’s epicenter was seven miles south-southwest of Hollister at a depth of six kilometers, according to the United States Geographical Service. The USGS describes the temblor as being “strongly felt in the Gilroy-Hollister area.”
