Gavilan board to appoint interim president while Kinsella out on medical leave

The Gavilan College Board of Trustees Tuesday will consider appointing a short-term replacement for President Steve Kinsella, who will be taking about a one-month medical leave starting at the end of this month, according to Gavilan staff.

Teddy bears offer comfort to children

The Gilroy Exchange Club presented the Gilroy Police and Fire departments with a multitude of Teddy bears at the club’s luncheon March 6. The Exchange Club adopted the Teddy bear program, which helps officers and firefighters handle extreme situations involving children, and purchased a number of bears to donate. Police and firefighters will give the bears to children to comfort them during times of trauma. A police car and fire engine were displayed during the lunch and presentation of bears by Exchange Club members.

Longtime local Italian restaurateur passes away

As authentic as the Italian cuisine served at his one-time iconic Gilroy restaurant, Giuseppe “Joe” Bertolone passed away Tuesday in Alabaster, Ala., where he helped start up another family-run eatery by the same name: Joe’s Italian Restaurant.
