Nice Paint Job
“I just wanted to say how nice the downtown is looking now that the street is open and I also wanted to give a complement to Job Camarena at Wes’ Shoe Repair who has painted his shop to beautify it now that the street is open, and we hope that other merchants do the same and clean up their shops and make them look nice, because the streets are looking wonderful, thank you.”
Red Phone:
Thank you good caller for the nice compliment, Red Phone is happy to pass it on to our readers and your message about the general efforts everyone has put in to beautify the downtown area are appreciated, I’m sure. Congrats to our city’s good work to revitalize the area.
Police Need to Get Out More
“Saw the story on how the police don’t have a traffic officer so they can’t hand out tickets and they can’t patrol around the schools. That’s absolute hogwash, they can get everyone who’s on patrol, the five, six, seven officers plus everyone from the station plus Chief Giusiana, and get out there for an hour in the morning, an hour in the afternoon and patrol around the schools and hand out some tickets and after a month I’ll bet you they’ll be lots more traffic compliance.
But they have to get out of the office and they have to get out of the patrol cars and they have to give out some tickets but the fact that they don’t have a designated officer that’s complete hogwash.”
Red Phone:
Good point caller, your wish has become a reality. During the recent increased enforcement around Gilroy High School Monday GPD cleaned up. Thursday’s Dispatch reported that more than 77 citations were issued in less than seven hours of enforcement, 27 of those issued near Luigi Aprea and GHS.
Thank you GPD for giving a harsh reminder to our good citizens that speeding – especially in a school zone – is against the law, isn’t worth it and could result in a more serious situation than a traffic ticket.
Please slow down and pay attention. Saving seconds isn’t worth risking someone’s life.
Building Bridges
“I was wondering if Wal-Mart’s ever going to build that road crossing over to Arroyo Circle? Seems to me that was part of their contract thank you.”
Red Phone:
Contacted Mayor Al Pinheiro who said that the city is currently in the design stage for this project. The project will cross a creek site so an environmental review must be completed with all parties involved. This is a city project, not part of Wal-Mart’s contract, because the traffic in that area is created by many different businesses, not just the giant discount warehouse.
“This is a city designed project, and all traffic medications are based on different impacts of that area and that was taken into consideration with the development of that area,” Pinheiro said.
City engineer Don Dey reiterated what Mayor Al shared with the current situation of the project, in more regional issues the city takes the lead in traffic construction. Dey said bids for construction will be advertised by next year and the project will hopefully be completed in fall of 2008.
