Heading into the playoff games that kicked off on Wednesday, the Christopher baseball team knocked off San Benito 5-1 on May 11.
The Cougars finish with an overall record of 15-11 and 9-9 in Gabilan Division play.
That propelled Christopher into the first round of the CCS Division I playoffs against Watsonville. Results from that game were not available by presstime.
The Cougars capitalized on nine hits and two Balers errors to pull away with the win.
Andrew Kachel went 2-5 with a run and and RBI.
Eight of the nine Christopher starters got hits and the lone exception even got an RBI.
Jack Tomlinson drove in a run on a hit and two walks and JoJo Aguilera drove in a run in four plate appearances.
Sean Straub got the win, going six innings giving up one run on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
Straub had a no-hit bid that was finally broken up with two outs in the fifth.
Kachel closed the door with a solid one inning of work, giving up no hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Christopher scored its first run in the top of the sixth when Matthew Salinas reached on a one-out single. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Salinas scored when Aguilera drove a ball to deep right that was mishandled, allowing Aguilera to reach on an error.
Christopher went up 3-0 in the fourth inning when Isaiah Ahumada and Jack Tomlinson reached on back-to-back walks to lead off the inning.
After they advanced 90 feet on a ground ball out from Aguilera, Ahumada scored on a passed ball.
Tomlinson then scored on a single from Kachel.
Zach Griffen made it 4-0 when he scored on a double from Tomlinson with two outs.
Kachel rounded out the scoring when Griffin reached on an error to bring Kachel home.
Kachel reached on a fielders choice, advanced on a single and stole third before scoring on the error.
San Benito finally got on the board in the sixth when Straub reached on a two-out double to lead off three straight hits.
Straub finally go tout of the inning thanks to a popout to second.
If Christopher moves on against Watsonville, the Cougars will face the winner of No. 6 Pioneer and No. 11 Wilcox in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
