Somavia drives in five runs on double, triple in 16-6

GILROY – Williams Dental Lab clinched at least a tie for the first-half Women’s BB League title Wednesday with a 16-6 victory over Don’s Vending at Christmas Hill Park.

Dental and Don’s sported identical 3-1 marks entering Wednesday’s showdown. Rose Martinez and Maureen Hughes clubbed four hits apiece as Williams Dental took a 4-1 mark into next week’s final doubleheader.

Cherie Somavia opened the Williams offense with a two-run double in the first inning, scoring on a Sandy Fortino single. Don’s Vending pulled even at 4-4 in the third when Kathy Van Hoy singled across two runs and Liz Adams lined an RBI-single.

Fortino and Jenny Szyndrowski hit consecutive run-scoring singles in the fourth as Williams Dental Lab posted four runs. Somavia lashed a two-run triple in the fifth, Margene Peterson a run-scoring double in the sixth.

Kim Lopez, Cory Casillas, Van Hoy and Adams each collected two hits for Don’s Vending.

M&M’s (4-1) maintained a share of the Women’s C League leadership Wednesday with a 20-8 nod over Eugene Marks Tractor Service at Las Animas Park.

Laura Hagiperos ignited the M&M’s attack with a six-RBI effort, including a two-run homer in the third that helped the winners snap a 3-3 tie. Sally Wrye and Missy Hice each provided four hits and scored four runs for the winners. Nicole Villarreal went 3-for-3 and Chrissy Ivory hit two doubles for Marks Tractor.

Dutchman’s Pizza followed with a 14-4 victory over the Hpnotiqs to join M&M’s at 4-1.

The Hpnotiqs took a 4-3 lead in the top of the third when Liz Talavera and Nicole Shrapshire hit run-scoring singles. Dutchman’s responded with four marker sin the third, keyed by a Helen Ortega RBI-triple.

Dora Olivarez went 4-for-4 and Mercy Sermeno and Gloria MacVicar added three hits each for the Pizza. Mari Garcia managed two singles and scored two Hpnotiqs runs.

Monica Melendrez and Esmeralda Hernandez each went 4-for-4 to pace Goldsmith Seeds past the Energizers 24-1. Carla Sanchez went 3-for-3 and Emily Hernandez went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Seeds. Denise Chavez doubled home the Energizer run. Tracy Nelson went 2-for-2.

Lee Ann Blean drove in three runs with a homer and double as Chaos defeated Kay’s Kids 18-6.

Cindy Gonzales and Rene Rogers each went 3-for-3 and scored four Chaos runs. Kat Corrales and Tanya Reyes each homered for Kay’s Kids.
