Deodoro Newport Morelos, 62, died Thursday at his residence in
Gilroy.
Deodoro Newport Morelos, 62, died Thursday at his residence in Gilroy. Morelos served faithfully to the U.S. Navy for six years. He held a brown belt in Judo and loved to play the guitar, harmonica, piano and the banjo. Morelos performed in magic shows for children in schools in Brownsville in the ’70s as “Lalo the Magician.”
Morelos is preceded in death by his mother Angelita Newport Morelos.
Morelos is survived by his loving wife Rosa Morelos of Cleveland, Texas; one daughter, Michelle Yvonne (Mark) Wise of Webster, Texas; father, Rafael Celaya Morelos of Brownsville, Texas; four grandchildren, Joseph D. Cantu, Crystal L. Cantu, Allen M. Wise and Dylan J. Wise all of Webster. Mr. Morelos is also survived by four sisters, Alice (Henry) Mansfield of Redondo Beach, California, Genevieve (Peter) Longoria of San Roman, Estela Torres of Brownsville and Ana (Jerry) Moss of Newnan, Ga. Three brothers also survive Mr. Morelos, Ricardo (Margarita) Morelos of Georgetown, Reynaldo (Melba) Morelos of Gilroy and Daniel (Irma) Morelos of Morgan Hill. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Morelos.
Visitation was Wednesday at Buena Vista Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park in Brownsville, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Mark Wise, Joseph Cantu, Daniel Morelos, Pete Longoria, Jerry Moss and Ricardo Morelos.
