Gilroy – Gavilan College Children’s Theater presents “A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens. The classic Christmas story with Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future will be brought to life in the Gavilan College Theater.
Specially scheduled educational shows during the day are convenient for schools and groups.
They are scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday through Dec. 9, start at 9:30am and include special school pricing at $3.50 per seat.
Family performances will be be presented Dec. 3, 4, 10, and 11 at 7:30pm at Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

Violin group performs Thursday

Gilroy – (Parents, Friends, and Families of Lesbians and Gays) is a support group fostering understanding and acceptance in families and society.

Help companion animals
San Martin – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) need help to find loving families for the many homeless companion animals currently at the shelter and in foster homes.
Come to the FOSMAS petfair on Dec. 4 and 5, noon – 5pm at Petco, Morgan Hill, and find a new furry friend; make a donation to help cover spay/neuter, food, and litter expenses; or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter.

Amateur photography contest
Gilroy – The International Library of Photography is holding their “International Open Amateur Photography Contest.”
More than $60,000 will be awarded in more than 1,300 prizes. Entry is free.
To enter, send one photograph in one of the following categories: People, Travel, Pets, Children, Sports, Nature, Action, Humor, Portraiture or Other.
The photo must be an unmounted black-and-white or color print 8×10 inches or smaller. All entries must include the category, title of photo and photographer’s name and address on the back.

Victorian Christmas Tea
Gilroy – The Gilroy Community Services Department will present A Victorian Christmas Tea and Quilt exhibit at 10am and 1pm on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Historic Willey House, 140 Fifth St.
Each tea is limited to 36 people and will feature holiday musical entertainment and traditional tea and light fare.
The cost is $15 for Gilroy residents and $18 for nonresidents.

ACT assessment test
College-bound high school students can take the ACT Assessment Test on Dec. 11, the next national test date.
The late registration deadline is Thursday, but requires an additional $15 late fee. The test fee is $28. Students can get registration forms from their guidance counselor or online at www.actstudent.org.
ACT scores are accepted by virtually all colleges in the nation, including Ivy League schools. Students can find the closest testing location on ACT’s Web site.
The ACT is based on achievement, not aptitude and includes English, reading, mathematics and science.
In February, 2005 an optional writing test will also be offered to students for colleges which require it. It takes three hours to complete.
Free sample questions and inexpensive practice tests can also be found on ACT’s Web site.
