San Jose loses bid to keep fairgrounds
Santa Clara County won a small but important legal battle in its effort to build a theater on fairgrounds in San Jose. It is too early, however, to predict if the fair will one day relocate to Gilroy.
A San Mateo County Superior Court judge last week rejected a lawsuit by the City of San Jose that effectively blocked the county from moving forward with its theater project.
The City of San Jose has a separate $20 million deal with the parent company of the San Jose Sharks hockey team to build a theater in the city, according to County Counsel Ann Ravel.
While acknowledging “rumors” that the fairgrounds could one day relocate to Gilroy, Ravel said county supervisors have not formally discussed the possibility.
