Choirs’ concert tonight

annual Fall Concert tonight and Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Mary
Church, at the corner of First and Monterey Street. The Men’s
Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Concerto Delle Donne and the
Chamber Singers will be performing under t
he direction of Phil Robb. On Wednesday, special guest Brownell
Academy Choir will also be performing.
Choirs’ concert tonight

GILROY – The Gilroy High School Choirs will be presenting their 20th annual Fall Concert tonight and Wednesday, Oct. 29, at St. Mary Church, at the corner of First and Monterey Street. The Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Concerto Delle Donne and the Chamber Singers will be performing under the direction of Phil Robb. On Wednesday, special guest Brownell Academy Choir will also be performing.

Concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m., doors open at 7:10 p.m. A $3 charge at the door will go to help with the choirs and their expenses for the year. Details: 847-2424.

Benefit the shade

GILROY – The Cove, 303 First St., and Antonio Del Buono Elementary School invite you to come dine with them on Wednesday, Oct. 29, to help raise money to benefit the school’s Shade Project. Just present your server with the flyer of this benefit (available from school), with any dine-in or take-out order, and The Cove will donate 10 percent of their proceeds to the Shade Project. Try out for youth b-ball

GILROY – Sign up for basketball league tryouts. The Gilroy Community Services Department offers a competitive basketball league for boys and girls in grades 3 through 10. Teams are made up of 8 to 10 players. Each player must be prepared to play at least half of each game throughout the eight-game season. Each player will receive a team jersey; champion shirts will be given to division champions. Scholarships are available.

Explore ‘haunted’ center

GILROY – Coyote Lake County Park, 10840 Coyote Reservoir Road, presents its annual “Haunted Visitor Center,” Thursday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 2., from 6 to 10 p.m. each night. Discover what is “haunting” Coyote’s Visitor Center at night. Play chillingly fun games and explore creepy critters in the dark.

Church harvest fests

GILROY – Two Gilroy churches invite children to put on their costumes for a night of fun on Friday, Oct. 31.

Gilroy Presbyterian Church is having its first Harvest Fun Fest from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church campus. There will be crafts, carnival games, hay rides, a bounce house, pumpkin decorating, dancing, hot dogs and trick or treats.This is a free event for all to enjoy. However, non-perishable food items will be collected for donation to a local food shelf. The church is located at 6000 Miller Ave. Details: 853-3295.

Halloween Spooktacular

GILROY – The Gilroy Premium Outlets and the Gilroy Police Department bring you Halloween Spooktacular on Friday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. Come enjoy a safe and fun Halloween at the Outlets. Kids can learn Halloween safety tips from the Gilroy Police Department. Free trick-or-treat bags and free candy will be given out by participating stores. Save a shepherd

GILROY – Petco will be hosting the San Francisco Bay Area “German Shepherd Rescue Showcase Day” on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

EDC educator award

GILROY – The Economic Development Corporation has announced its upcoming seventh annual “Educator of the Year” award. The award is designed to recognize an outstanding individual who has made a significant contribution within the educational community of Gilroy. Any person who has been involved with the public/private educational arena for at least one year is eligible.

The award will go to the individual who has demonstrated exceptional motivational skills with measurable results, demonstrated innovation in program development and implementation and has received recognition and respect of peers and/or student body.

The recipient of the award will be honored and receive a $1,000 check.

GILROY – The Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization is accepting applicants for individuals interested in serving on the county committee.
