GILROY – Gavilan will host the second annual Gavilan College Creativity Festival, called IMX: Infinite Potential, Saturday, March 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The festival will feature a day of workshops on creative expression ranging from haiku to hip-hop. Workshop offerings also include generating new material, breaking through writer’s block and computer graphics. The fee for participation is $5 per person, payable at registration. Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook and a few pens or pencils and their energy and ideas. Lunch will be provided. This event is open to the community. Preregistration is not required. Support ICF over breakfast

GILROY – The Italian Catholic Federation Branch 28 is sponsoring a scholarship breakfast at St. Mary Cullen Hall, 11 First St., on Sunday, March 30 from 7 a.m. to

1 p.m. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, milk and coffee. Donations are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. All proceeds benefit ICF charities and scholarship funds for local schools. Details:

Opening ceremonies

GILROY – Gilroy Little League’s Opening Ceremonies will be this Saturday, starting with a parade at 10 a.m. on the ranch side to Christmas Hill Park. At 11:30 a.m. there will be games and food. The Gilroy police and fire department will be on-hand with information on safety. The South Valley Children’s Choir will sing the anthem. Scholarship opportunity

GILROY – Applications are now available for Gilroy High School seniors interested in applying for the 2003 Odyssey Theatre Company Community Scholarship. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified Gilroy High senior entering his or her first year of college in the fall of 2003. To qualify, the student must graduate from Gilroy High in June 2003 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (four-year cumulative), have experience in community and extracurricular activities (with a particular emphasis in theater arts) and complete the scholarship application. The deadline for submitting a completed application packet is May 1. Applications are available in the College and Career Center at GHS. Details: 847-2424.

Home-grown artist

GILROY – The annual “Spring Concert” of the South Valley Symphony will be Saturday, April 5, at the Gilroy High School Theater at 8 p.m. Conductor Henry Mollicone will lead the symphony in a program that includes a festive march called “The Canton Aero Club March” composed by King and especially arranged by Jim O’Briant, principal tuba player of the sym-phony. Following an inter-mission, local native and featured mezzo soprano, Sonia Gariaeff, will sing several selections including two from the opera “Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart. Adopt a cat

MORGAN HILL – Town Cats has several special-needs kittens who need expensive surgeries, mostly to correct severe eye problems. Stop by their cat and kitten adoption fair on Saturday, March 29, from noon to 5 p.m. to make a donation or adopt a furry friend. Coe Park programs

MORGAN HILL – Henry Coe State Park will host a variety of programs on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30. Take part in a 5-mile Frog Lake Loop Discovery Hike on Saturday at 10 a.m. Bring water and a lunch. Sign up by contacting Chuck Nelson at 267-9864. Wildflower walks and hikes will depart from the Visitor Center at park headquarters at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days.
