Start your own business
GILROY – Learn how to get started the right way by participating in a seminar presented by the Gavilan College Small Business Development Center. It will provide an overview of marketing essentials, product selection, business goal setting, legal issues, licenses required, risk evaluation, bookkeeping, financing and management issues. The class will be held on Tuesday, March 4 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Gavilan College SBDC office, Dry Creek Village Center, 8351 Church St., Building E. The fee is $20. Help assault victims
GILROY – The 60-hour state certified domestic violence and sexual assault training will take place Tuesday, March 4 through April 12. The training, which will take place at Community Solutions, prepares people to volunteer with a domestic violence or sexual assault agency. Become a qualified domestic violence and sexual assault advocate and empower victims and help prevent further violence in our community. Marvel at ‘clay clocks’
GILROY – The Gavilan College Art Department presents the exhibit “Clay Clocks” which will take place now through March 6 in the Gavilan College Art Gallery, Library Building, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Admission is free. Parking on campus is 75 cents. Walk on the wild side
MORGAN HILL – Join Dr. Jane Haley, a National Park docent for 20 years and Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer, on Saturday, March 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. along Coyote Creek for the third in a series of five bird walks. Participants will discover an appreciation for local birds, their habitat and ecological importance. Due to the terrain, these walks are not recommended for young children. Backpacking adventure
MORGAN HILL – Henry Coe State Park is holding three sessions for beginning and intermediate backpackers. There will be a classroom session on Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a 5-mile backpacking trip on March 22 and a four-day trip April 10 through 13.
