An evening of ‘Ball’ comedy

GILROY – Fifteen local teenagers take the stage this weekend in their own live version of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” The Odd Balls, a comedy improv show, is part of Odyssey Theatre Company’s Summer Conservatory. Performances will be today and Saturday, July 18 and 19, at 8 p.m. in the Gilroy High School Theater. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students. Play in golf tourney

GILROY – Gilroy Ballistik, a boys 13 and under traveling baseball team will be holding a golf tournament on Saturday, July 19, at Gilroy Golf Course. The cost is $80 per player which includes a shared golf cart, barbecue dinner, prizes and raffle gifts.

Garlic fun breaks out of the park

GILROY – The Historic Strand Theater will host national and local talent Garlic Festival weekend to keep the party going after the park closes.

On Friday, July 25, several members of local favorite Suave will play with recording artists Mystique. Their distinctive brand of Latin jazz/rock is popular throughout the South Bay and Santa Cruz areas. Jorge Santana, brother of multi-platinum recording artist Carlos Santana and a former member of the band Santana, joins Suave. The show starts at 9 p.m. and costs $25.

On Saturday, July 26, The Austin Lounge Lizards will bring their tongue-in-cheek brand of hilarious country/bluegrass satire. The Cowlicks, an “alt-country California style” band will perform after the Lizards. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $16 in advance, $18 at the door.

On Sunday, July 27, Gilroy’s own Juz-Cuz will bring their funk, dance and R&B sounds at 7 p.m. for a free performance. Details: Christine Brooks at 846-8455.

Tour the Milky Way

GILROY – Join Ranger Griggs and members of the San Jose Astronomical Society for a magical tour through the Milky Way Galaxy and beyond at Coyote Lake Park on Saturday, July 19, from 8 to 9 p.m. Numerous telescopes will be focused on a variety of astronomical delights. Milky Way treats will be served.

GavTV series makes a connection

GILROY – A new TV series on GavTV Channel 18 will profile organizations, events and individuals in South Valley and explore its “Gavilan College Connection.”

Each episode will air for two weeks. Gavilan College Connections began airing on Monday, July 14. It will be cablecast Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., immediately preceding The Gavilan Hour. Gavilan College Connections will help to provide recognition for the many people working to add to the cultural, social, and business lives of their communities.

Carnival visits MH next week

MORGAN HILL – Thrills, chills and a whole lot of family fun can be found at the Morgan Hill Summer Carnival July 24 to 27.

Butler Amusements will bring some of its most popular rides – including the Zipper, Himalaya and Kamikaze – to the midway, located at the property behind Burger King at Monterey Highway and West Edmundson Avenue.

The carnival is sponsored by the Learning and Loving Education Center. Carnivalgoers can enjoy the carnival for less by purchasing advance sale tickets that are available now at the Living and Loving Center, 16890 Church St. until July 23.
