Make fun of work

GILROY – The final weekend of the Pintello Comedy Theater’s production of ‘Office Hours’ is here. The final shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, at 8531 Church St.

‘Office Hours’ is a comedy featuring five actors playing 17 parts in six different offices who are connected, but in very unexpected ways.

Celebrate the 4th on a hike

GILROY – Come celebrate Independence Day on a 3.5-mile moderate hike with a park ranger at Uvas Canyon. Discover how parks play a role in our national and local heritage during the Heritage Hike, from 9 a.m, to 12 p.m. Bring hiking shoes, layered clothing, water and sun protection. Meet at the amphitheater. A $4 vehicle fee will apply to enter park.

Life giving golf

GILROY – J.R. Brewski’s announces ‘Drive For Life,’ a golf tournament, on Sunday, July 4 at Gilroy Golf Course. Entry fee of $65 per person and includes green fee, golf cart, barbecue lunch, beverage ticket and a chance to win prizes ranging from golf items to a catered dinner for 8.

The event will also include contests such as the longest drive, closest to the pin and more. One lucky winner will also have one of there favorite items named after them and placed on the menu at J.R. Brewski’s, located at 8080 Santa Teresa Blvd. suite 100. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The American Cancer Society.

Poetry contest seeks artists

A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a new free poetry contest sponsored by Celestial Arts, free to everyone. More than 50 prizes totaling more than $4000 will be awarded including the grand prize.

”If you have never entered a competition before,” says Poetry Editor Michael Thomas, ”this is your opportunity to win big. Even if you have written only one poem it deserves to be read and appreciated. Beginners from the Gilroy area are especially welcome.”

Reward your faith

GILROY – A $1,000 grand prize is being offered by New Jersey Rainbow Poets in a free religious poetry contest. There are 50 prizes in all, totaling almost $5,000. Participation is open to everyone interested. Any denomination or faith is accepted. Poems entered may have an opportunity to be published in a luxurious anthology.

Brunch for a battle

Be a life giver

GILROY – The American Red Cross will hold a Gilroy Community Blood Drive on Thursday, July 8, from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave. To donate blood you must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.

Blood donors are required to provide identification before donating blood, including a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, or a Red Cross blood donor card.
