GILROY – Cold Stone Creamery, 890 Renz Lane, Suite 101, will dish out sweet wishes during the third annual ‘World’s Largest Ice Cream Cake Social,’ a fundraiser benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, on Thursday, July 29, from 5 to 8 p.m.

More than 750 stores nationwide will give guests, who are invited to make a donation toward Make-A-Wish, a complimentary slice of yummy ice cream cake. The cake is a blend of layers of devil’s food cake, sweet cream ice cream, Oreos and chocolate shavings wrapped in rich chocolate ganache.

Be behind the badge

GILROY – Are you between the ages of 20 and 35, and want a job that really makes a difference? Consider becoming a California Highway Patrol Officer.

Right now, CHP is recruiting men and women for six-month training at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento. Once accepted, cadets are employed by the department and earn about $3,000 per month during training.

Juz-Cuz

GILROY – Local group Juz-Cuz will celebrate the release of their CD at a Release Party at The Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St., on Sunday, Aug. 15.

At 2 p.m., there will be a guest-list only buffet lunch for invited press, radio, friends and family. Following at 4 p.m. will be a Juz-Cuz matinee performance open to the public.

Tickets are $25 and each ticketholder will receive a free full-length Juz-Cuz ‘The Return Of The Players’ CD and will be entered into a drawing to win a trip accompanying Juz-Cuz on tour.

This concert is going to be videotaped, as clips of the performance will be used in their upcoming music video.

Juz-Cuz is a six-piece instrumental/vocal group formed in 1997 in San Martin, when a group of pre-teen cousins got together to create some music (hence the name Juz-Cuz).

Entertainers needed

GILROY – Live Oak Adult Day Services, 651 W. Sixth St., is in need of volunteers on a one-time or regular basis who can share their talents with the elderly at the center. Come and sing, play the piano, share vacation slides or a pet, tell stories or jokes, etc. All ages are welcome to share their time and talents.

GILROY – Join the Gilroy Writing Project every third Saturday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gilroy Library. Experienced writers from print, broadcast and other media will share tips and anecdotes on the writing life. Tea and coffee are provided.

Hospice volunteers needed

GILROY/MORGAN HILL – The Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program at Santa Teresa Hospital, 50 East Main Ave., Morgan Hill, is in need of volunteers for the Gilroy and Morgan Hill area.

Hospice volunteers are needed to do home visits to hospice patients and families and/or make bereavement phone calls on a monthly basis. Training is provided.
