GILROY – Pacific West Christian Academy in Gilroy will hold its eighth annual Spring Gala Auction and Dinner entitled, ”Hollywood … A Night For Our Little Stars” on Saturday, May 8, at the Hayes Mansion, 200 Edenvale Ave. in San Jose. Proceeds will go to benefit the new facility in Gilroy planned to open in September of 2005.

The new facility will feature playing fields, a large worship center, banquet hall and the ability to house 600 Christian students. Details: 847-7922.

Dress up and get in free

GILROY – The Gavilan College Theatre Arts production of ‘The Drunkard! or Down With Demon Drink,’ directed by Jim Cave, encourages audiences to get into the act by dressing up as their favorite hero, heroine or villain. Anyone who shows up for either of the Saturday performances in costume will gain free admission to the performance.

‘The Drunkard’ tells the story of Edward, the virtuous, penniless heir of his kindhearted father. One day the villain Squire Cribbs lures Edward into drinking at an Inn and the effects are instantaneous; he becomes a drunkard, consigned to live in poverty. His foster brother William discovers Cribbs’ plans and good triumphs over evil.

Performances are set for Fridays, May 7 and 14, and Saturdays, May 8 and 15, at 8 p.m., and are held at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors and $6 for kids 12 and younger. Remember those who served

GILROY – The National World War II Memorial will be dedicated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, in Washington, DC.

National Veterans organizations across the nation are asking that local Veterans Organizations pay tribute in their own cities. The Local American Legion Posts 669 and 217 along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6309 are participating in the dedication at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 74 W. Sixth St.

Gilroy’s Company B 184th Infantry, which left Gilroy on March 3, 1942, will be honored. All WW II veterans are encouraged to attend and be recognized for their unselfish sacrifices

Reservations are required, no tickets will be available at the door. Mayor Al Pinheiro and Supervisor Don Gage will greet everyone. Lunch will be served for $11.

GILROY – The Gilroy High School classes of 1968 and 1969 are planning a joint reunion for June 26. The committee has been working to locate former classmates.

See those ‘Guys and Dolls’

MORGAN HILL – South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Guys and Dolls,” a musical fable of Broadway, on May 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, located at Fifth and Monterey streets.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.

Volunteers always welcome

GILROY – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers. Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening.

Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk.

People interested in volunteering must do so at least two three-and-a-half-hour shifts each month.

They need to fill out an application, have an interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting.

Volunteers must also take a free tuberculosis skin test administered by hospital nurses. Details: 848-4919.
