GILROY – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center presents ‘QuickBooks 2004,’ a three workshop series, on Thursdays, Aug. 12, 19 and 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the SBDC office, located in the Dry Creek Village, 8351 Church St., Building E.
Learn to manage and reconcile business accounts, write and print checks, keep track of income and expenses, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, inventory, payroll, purchase orders, estimating and many other bookkeeping tasks that are relevant to run a successful business.
Also covered in this workshop, will be the ability to generate essential reports including profit and loss, and a balance sheet.
Feel free to bring a laptop with QuickBooks 2004 already installed. Cost is only $90 payable in advance.

World’s biggest ice cream party
GILROY – Cold Stone Creamery, 890 Renz Lane, suite 101, will dish out sweet wishes during the third annual ‘World’s Largest Ice Cream Cake Social,’ a fundraiser benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, on Thursday, July 29, from 5 to 8 p.m.
More than 750 stores nationwide will give guests, who are invited to make a donation toward Make-A-Wish, a complimentary slice of yummy ice cream cake.
The cake is a blend of layers of devil’s food cake, sweet cream ice cream, Oreos and chocolate shavings wrapped in rich chocolate ganache.

Marketing made easy
GILROY – The Gavilan College Small Business Development Center will hold ‘Small Business Marketing’ on Wednesday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the SBDC Office, 8351 Church St., Bldg. E.
The instructor will overview basic marketing strategies and discuss creating a plan to successfully market your business products or services. Come learn action oriented strategies for your small business.

Night on the lake
GILROY – Coyote Lake Park, located at 10840 Coyote Lake Road, will host a ‘Night Awareness Paddle’ from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, July 30.
Play games, hear moon lore and explore nature under the stars as you paddle across the lake.
Must have own kayak/canoe, life jacket and glow stick.

Learn about the Ohlone
GILROY – Chitactac-Adams presents ‘The Ohlone Ways’ from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 31.
Discover how the native Ohlone people lived and used natural resources along Uvas Creek for their everyday needs.

SAN MARTIN – The second annual San Martin Neighborhood Alliance (SMNA) ‘Happy Days Car Show Fundraiser’ will be held in the San Martin Country Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21.

Feel a better body
MORGAN HILL – Pilates class starts at the YMCA Mt. Madonna beginning Tuesdays, July 27 and Aug. 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. at 17666 Crest Ave.
Pilates is a form of exercise which helps to strengthen, tone and realign the body. Pilates can improve posture, flexibility and balance.
Instructor Julie Jensen is a certified personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise.
She taught at both the northwest and central YMCA facilities in Cupertino and San Jose for three years prior to moving to Morgan Hill.
The fee is $20 for members or $40 for non-members plus a basic membership of $25. Pre-registration is required.
