objections by a handful of residents who criticized the scientific
basis for such a regulation.

Gilroy – An ordinance banning wood burning in new homes received final approval Monday night by City Council, despite last-minute objections by a handful of residents who criticized the scientific basis for such a regulation.
The new ordinance, which takes effect in April, also requires owners of wood-burning fireplaces and stoves to replace the fixtures with an eco-friendly model when renovations affect the size or shape of the existing model.
The list of acceptable replacements include pellet-fueled wood heaters, gas fireplaces, or some other federally approved heating device.

Gilroy – Identity theft, the fastest-growing crime in America, is the subject of a free workshop offered to Gilroy residents on Monday.
Expert Kai Deering will provide information on how to protect one’s own assets, as well as those of family members. Attendees will receive an information packet filled with facts about identity theft, how to prevent it, and how to repair it.
The workshop will be held in the Gilroy Senior Center meeting room, 7371 Hanna St., from 10 to 11am Monday, March 14.

Presentation’s fashion show
San Jose – The 39th Annual Scholarship Benefit Fashion Show, Friday Night Fever, at Presentation High School will be held in April.
Appearing on the runway will be Presentation seniors, faculty, parents, board members, alumnae, and senior boys from area high schools who will model the latest fashions from top name area retailers.
The Fashion Show raises money to provide financial aid for students attending the all-female Catholic high school, located in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose. Last year’s Fashion Show contributed more than $90,000 to the school’s scholarship fund.
Friday Night Fever will be held on April 15, 2005, at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The luncheon tickets are $80 per person. The dinner tickets are $135 per person and include dancing to the sounds provided by local radio disc jockey, King Raffi.

Dan Gamel RV Center sold
Morgan Hill – Dan Gamel RV Center has been sold to Alpine Recreation for an undisclosed price. The ownership change will take effect April 1.
Employees at the Gamel dealership have been invited to fill out job applications for Alpine, said Alpine President Pat Kennedy. Alpine has a dealership at 19380 Monterey Road. Some of the approximately 50 people based in Morgan Hill have been offered jobs at the other seven Gamel dealerships.
Kennedy sees the deal as positive for Alpine and Gamel.
“We will be a lot more visible in the community and the Highway 101 corridor,” Kennedy said Tuesday.
City Manager Ed Tewes said the two dealerships are in the top five in sales tax revenue.
