County offices evacuated
SAN MARTIN
– Reports of an explosion forced the California Department of
Forestry and Fire Protection to evacuate workers from the county
offices in San Martin Tuesday morning.
The evacuation occurred at 8:58 a.m., but county administrative
workers were allowed back inside the county building at 80 Highland
Avenue after CDF workers were unable to determine the origin or
cause of the reported explosion.

Church bazaar

GILROY – The Gilroy United Methodist Church will hold its bazaar on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the corner of Fourth and Church streets from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The bazaar will feature a showcase of artistic needlework, culinary delights and an array of whimsical crafts. Basketball clinic

GILROY – The Gavilan Men’s Basketball Program will host a basketball clinic for boys and girls in third through eighth grade. The clinic will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Gavilan College Gym. There will be a $20 registration fee. Details: 846-4918

Food drive

GILROY – Dr. Robert Kovacs, in conjunction with Safeway, Inc. and the U.S. Army Recruiting Company of Gilroy, are collecting food for the Adult and Child Guidance Center’s Older Adult Program in Gilroy in order to assure that everyone has a nice Thanksgiving Dinner. The drive will occur on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In exchange for your donation of non-perishable food items (low-salt or no-salt), Dr. Kovacs is offering a certificate for $125 worth of services at no charge. ‘Miracle Worker’ auditions

GILROY – Auditions for Odyssey Theatre Company’s winter Main Stage Production of “The Miracle Worker” will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Gilroy High School Theater.

This all-ages production will be produced and directed by special guest artist Jeff McGrath. “The Miracle Worker” is a play based on Annie Sullivan’s heroic efforts to teach her new pupil, young Helen Keller. Details: 842-0863.
