HOLLISTER – The Hollister Independence Rally Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hollister Post 9242 is announcing the Moving Wall exhibit to be on display at the old Fremont School from June 30 to July 5. The memorial will be open around the clock. HIRC and the VFW are looking for volunteers to help set up the event and man the memorial around the clock. Ball called off

MORGAN HILL – The Morgan Hill Community Foundation announced Monday that it would have to cancel the Directors’ Ball, A Night in Hollywood, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28.

“We are sincerely grateful to our many sponsors, ticket buyers, committee members and community volunteers for their support and dedication towards this event and for their belief in the Foundation’s mission,” said Dave Reisenauer, foundation board president.

The Directors’ Ball was to be a fund raiser for the foundation’s up-coming grant cycle but, Reisenauer said, not enough tickets had been sold by the weekend to make the event profitable.

Dance the night away

GILROY – St. Mary’s Youth Group will hold a “Mexican Fiesta,” an adult dinner dance, on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at Cullen Hall, 11 First St. A no-host bar, sounds to DJ spinning, an auction and a raffle will be featured. A donation of $25 per person will go to help send St. Mary’s Youth Group on their Mexico mission trip. Details: Clorete Almeida at 482-0554 or 848-6034.

SAN MARTIN – The Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave., will host “Family Game Night” tonight, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Food is provided along with the movies, games and art projects available for all ages. Details: Pastor Edd at (831) 239-6817.

Acting chief of Department of Corrections named

SAN JOSE – The County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors announced that Edward Flores, assistant chief of the Department of Corrections, will become acting chief when Chief Jim Babcock retires on March 15. The board had planned that Babcock would stay on until a replacement could be found. However, upon reflection on the budget difficulties confronting the department and the need for leadership on a full-time basis, the board decided to appoint Flores.
