In 2003, the Silicon Valley Reads choice, “Breaking Away,” drew dozens of children, parents, teachers and the general public. Organizers hope that the subject of Bradbury’s short book will resonate with the public and provide much to talk about.

Tryout for play

GILROY – The South Valley Civic Theatre will be holding open auditions for their upcoming production “Guys and Dolls” on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, Feb. 29 at 1:30 p.m., at the SVCT Warehouse, 8565 Monterey Road. Performers ages 16 and up are invited to sing a song of their choice and show their dancing and acting skills at a chance to participate in this play. Refresh your driving

GILROY – The AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 28. This one-day classroom refresher for motorists 50 and older will familiarize participants with driver safety, new DMV tests and laws. Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on auto insurance upon completion of the program. No tests will be given. Space is limited so reserve your place in advance.
