GILROY – Go back in time to the rockin’ ’50s during ‘Rock and Roll Extravaganza,’ hosted by Anchorpoint Christian High School, on Saturday, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Christmas Hill Park.
Swing to ’50s music with a special appearance from the King himself. Enjoy karaoke, a silent and live auction with tons of antiques to bid on, door prizes, cool raffle items from local businesses and some old cars to ride back into time with. Old fashioned ’50s dinners such as hamburgers, chips and rootbeer malts will be available for purchase.
Old car owners are encouraged to bring their vehicles to display. Only $5 per person to enter. All proceeds go toward ACHS scholarships. Tax deductible donations for the raffle are greatly appreciated. Ticket purchase is preferred in advance as space is limited, but not required.

Car seat inspection and installation fair
GILROY – Actor Erik Estrada will join CHP Officers during the ‘Car Seat Inspection and Installation Fair’ on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gilroy Crossing Shopping Center, 6705 to 6975 Camino Arroyo.
CHP officers will inspect, install, and, if necessary, replace car seats for local residents.
New car seats for participants who have broken, outdated, or recalled car seats are being donated by 21st Century Insurance. Free of charge.
Service is first come, first serve basis.
Poetry in Garlic City
GILROY – The Garlicky Group of Poets will hold its monthly poetry reading on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Gilroy Public Library, located at the corner of Rosanna and Sixth streets. Public participation is free and encouraged.

Spend a morning in the park Â
GILROY – Bonfante Gardens hosts ‘Saturday Morning in the Park; on Saturday, from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Join horticulturist Richard Soria on a tour of Bonfante Gardens, located at 3050 Hecker Pass Highway. There will be an emphasis on identification of shrub, trees, annuals, perennials and of course circus trees. Fee includes admission to the park and free parking. Ages 16 years and up are welcome.
Registration fee is $25 or $30 to non-residents.

GILROY – Find your wild side during ‘Creature Feature, Reptiles and Amphibians’ at Coyote Lake Park, 10840 Coyote Lake Road, from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Meet some slippery looking creatures that call the park home and discover their secrets through games and activities. Meet at the park office.

Round up spay funds
GILROY – Petco, 8767 San Ysidro Ave., hopes to break the cycle of pet overpopulation with their annual ‘Round Up/Spay Today Fundraiser,’ now through Sunday.
Customers are encouraged to ’round up’ purchases to the next highest dollar to raise money for local animal welfare organizations that offer spay/neuter programs or education. Also, 10 percent of all funds raised will go to SPAY/USA, the largest spay/neuter advocacy and referral program in the world. Along with unplanned litters, spay or neutering helps prevent ovarian, mammary and testicular cancers.

SAN MARTIN – The second annual San Martin Neighborhood Alliance (SMNA) ‘Happy Days Car Show Fundraiser’ will be held in the San Martin Country Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 21.
Food, fun and live music of the JJ HAWG band. Admission is $5. A registration fee of $20 includes T-shirt and entry fee.

Rummage for Rover
SAN MARTIN – Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) is preparing for their third annual rummage sale to be held in September. Donations of usable household goods, clothing, pet supplies, etc., are now being accepted.
Donations may be dropped off at the San Martin Shelter, 12370 Murphy Ave., Monday through Saturday, except Tuesdays, from noon to 5 p.m. Â
