Thank your deer
GILROY – Chitactac-Adams Park, 10001 Watsonville Road, will present ‘Thank You My Deer’ from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday. By using every part of a deer, the native Ohlone people honored the taking of the animal’s life. Discover how deer were used by the Ohlone for food, tools, games, clothing and more during an easy hike. To get to the park, take the Tennant Avenue exit, go west, turn left (south) on Monterey Highway and travel about 0.5 mile south and turn right on Watsonville Road.

Remember those who served
GILROY – The National World War II Memorial will be dedicated at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Washington, DC.
National Veterans organizations across the nation asked local Veterans Organizations to pay tribute in their own cities.
The local American Legion Posts 669 and 217, along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6309, are participating in the dedication at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 74 W. Sixth St.
Mayor Al Pinheiro and Supervisor Don Gage will greet everyone. Gilroy’s Company B 184th Infantry which left Gilroy on March 3, 1942 will be honored.
All WW II veterans are encouraged to attend, be recognized for their unselfish sacrifices and receive lunch, a shirt and a certificate of recognition.
General admission is $12. Reservations are required; no tickets will be available at the door.

Hometown celebrates
GILROY – Hometown Buffet, 7950 Arroyo Circle, will celebrate their fourth anniversary on Saturday, A jump house will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A DJ will provide music from noon to 8 p.m. The Hometown Buffet Mascot, H.T. Bee will give out balloons and free meal passes for kids. A coloring contest is open to kids 2 to 12, with a grand prize of a new bicycle.
Those who dine at the restaurant will be entered into a raffle to win a free adult meal, drawn every half hour.

Calling classes of ’68 and ’69
GILROY – The Gilroy High School classes of 1968 and 1969 are planning a joint reunion for June 26. The committee has been working to locate former classmates.

Hospice volunteers needed
GILROY/MORGAN HILL – The Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program at Santa Teresa Hospital, 50 East Main Ave., Morgan Hill, is in need of volunteers for the Gilroy and Morgan Hill area.
Hospice volunteers are needed to do home visits to hospice patients and families and/or make bereavement phone calls on a monthly basis. Training is provided

Volunteers always welcome
GILROY – Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy has a constant need for volunteers.
Adult volunteers are needed in patient services areas such as skilled nursing and infant-hearing screening.
Volunteers are also needed in the gift shop and the information desk. People interested in volunteering must help out on at least two three-and-a-half-hour shifts at the hospital each month.
Those interested need to fill out an application, interview with Volunteer Coordinator Gail Paccioretti, and attend an orientation meeting.
Volunteers must also take a free tuberculosis skin test administered by hospital nurses.
