GILROY – Gavilan College and the South Valley Symphony present “Bach to Blues,” a concert featuring a wide range of music, tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

An informal reception will follow after the performances. A commemorative CD with cuts by all of the musicians will be available. V.I.P. seating, including Bach to Blues mug and Starbucks coffee, is $25, general seating is $12, senior tickets are $10 ad students are $8.

Tickets are available at South Valley Symphony Outlets, Gavilan College Bookstore and Gavilan College Box Office at 6 p.m. on day of event.

Get Gav Festive

GILROY – Gavilan College presents “GavFEST,” a day of fun, creativity and entertainment, on Saturday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gavilan College Campus, located at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

The event and parking are free.

The Student Center will feature an Open House of the college programs and services for prospective students as well as entertainment.

Support youth activities

GILROY – The Gilroy Assistance League is a group of thirty five women who are dedicated to raising funds to support Gilroy youth activities.

We welcome others in the community to become Associate members. The annual dues are $30; please contact Doris Isaacson at 847-4245 for more information.

Associate members are invited to help us congratulate grant recipients. This year the awards will be presented following a brunch at the old City Hall on May 14, 2004, at 10:30. In addition, the Gilroy High School Chamber Singers, recently back from their tour to Europe, will be presenting a musical program.

Love your lawn

GILROY – Garden Accents, 11155 Lena Ave., will host “Lawn Care,” a free garden class, on Saturday, April 24. Space is limited so register early. Details: 846-4555.

Discover fun

GILROY – The Gilroy Community Service Dept. and Gilroy Rotary Club present “Kids Discover Arts 2004” on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Wheeler Community Center, located at the corner of Sixth and Rosanna streets.

Local professionals will conduct more than 20 different hands-on arts workshops and activities for kids 5 through 11. No one will be admitted after 2 p.m. Wear paint-friendly clothing. Sorry, no pets or strollers inside. All children must be accompained by an adut. Details: 846-0460.

Kids’ Spring Festival

GILROY – Rebekah Children’s Services, 290 I.O.O.F. Ave., will celebrate its 40th annual “Spring Festival” on Saturday and Sunday, April 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Food and dessert booths, games, craft vendors, entertainment and free prizes from the girl scouts for the whole family. A Sunday morning pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. for $4 and a barbeque lunch for $7 will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds benefit services for vunerable children and families.
