Farmers and ranchers from Santa Clara and San Benito counties are invited to participate in the Agricultural Water Quality Program, a short-course that helps participants design an individualized water quality protection plan for their farms and watersheds.

The five-day, 15-hour series of classes covers a range of topics including irrigation efficiency, fertilization techniques and permit regulations.

Gilroy – Preschool/Kindergarten Readyness Classes start on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Harmony Christian Preschool, located at 651 Broadway St., adjacent to Stephen’s Church.

All children are invited to come and play and meet Ms. Julie during two separate sessions. The morning session starts at 8:30am and the afternoon session starts at 12:30pm.

Gilroy – Chitactac-Adams Park presents ‘Ohlone Songs, Stories and Dances,’ a free program, from 1 to 3pm on Saturday. Join the Amah-Ka-Tura Dancers, led by Patrick Yana-hea Orozco, for an afternoon of Ohlone and Chumash songs, stories and dances.

Observe native customs and regalia, and discover the enchantment of Chitactac. The park is located at Watsonville and Burchell Roads.

Retire old, worn out and faded flags

Gilroy – Have an old, worn out or faded flag? Then bring that flag down to 9260 Loganberry Drive by Saturday, and troop 708 will retire it properly, at Christmas Hill Park on Saturday, Sept. 11.

Everyone is invited to take part in this patriotic eagle project and listen as the Gilroy High School Chamber Singers provide inspiring music. The flag service will be held at 6pm.

Hilarious, entertaining ‘Belles’ hits the stage

Gilroy – Pintello Comedy Theater presents ‘Belles’ on Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. at 8pm each night, at the theater located at 8531 Church St.

The play is about six women from Memphis who now live all over the country and stay in touch by phone. The exchanges are sometimes hilarious and sometimes poignant, but always entertaining.

Auditions to be on ‘Broadway’ this winter

Gilroy – Gilroy Community Services Department and John Bisceglie will hold auditions for ‘Forever Broadway,’ the annual winter production, on Sept. 11 at 12:30pm for ages 5 to 10, 2:30pm for ages 11 to 14, and at 4:30pm for ages 15 to 25.

Auditions will be held at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.

Prepare a short song a capella and come in comfortable clothing, but no sandals please.

No experience is necessary.
