A Victorian Christmas

Historical Society and Calpine present a Victorian Christmas at the
Willey Cultural Center, 140 Fifth St. in Gilroy from 10 a.m. to 3
p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7. Step into the past to see a Victorian-era
Christmas recreated in downtown Gilroy.
Attractions include craft demonstrations, make-your-own
Christmas ornaments, a visit with Father Christmas and more.
Admission is $10, $12 for nonresidents. Children under age 10 get

Holiday Decorating Contest
GILROY – The South County Realtors Association and the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce present the Holiday Home Decorating Contest 2002. A panel of judges will tour the city on Wednesday, Dec. 11 between 6 and 10 p.m. The prize for first place is $75, with $50 and $25 for second and third place, and a special $25 prize for the best apartment or condominium. All residences within the Gilroy City limits are eligible. Decorations must be visible from the street. The deadline for entry is 5 p.m. Dec. 9. Donate at Garlic City Coffee
GILROY – Garlic City Coffee, 7501 Monterey St., has food barrels for Christmas. Donate non-perishable food items and toys. There is a barrel for each. Details: Karen at 842-4220.
Christmas Fun Night
GILROY – Hometown Buffet will have a Christmas Fun Night on Wednesday, Dec. 11. With a paying adult, children ages 2 to 12 will receive a free photo with Santa Claus, a “goody bag” and a free raffle ticket. The raffle starts at 3:30 p.m. and Santa will be visiting from 6 to 8 p.m. Details:

WERC holiday party
GILROY – WERC, the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center, invites its supporters and the public to a holiday reception Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Rapazzini Winery, 4350 Monterey Road, Gilroy. This is WERC’s was to say thank you to its volunteers, donors and corporate supporters. Through everyone’s generosity, WERC is able to provide care for orphaned, sick and injured native wildlife, and return them to their natural habitat. Details: 779-WERC.
Adopt a dog
GILROY – San Francisco Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue, Inc., is holding its second Gilroy Adoption Showcase Day on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Gilroy Petco. The all-volunteer organization is dedicated to rescuing German Shepherds from shelters where they are in danger of being destroyed. Details: 278-8187.
Jacket drive
GILROY – The Community Service Club of South Valley Middle School is holding a jacket drive now through Dec. 20. The club is asking people to donate old jackets and sweatshirts for needy families in the community.
